– Singer Jason Mraz struggled with his sexuality as he dated the woman who would become his mum, and at the time he was only getting “experiences” with men.
In June, the I’m Yours hitmaker penned a love poem to members of the gay, homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community for Billboard.com to celebrate Pride Month, and turned heads with a particular line in which he seemed to have ‘come out’ as bisexual.
The sentence in question read, “I am bi your side,” and now Jason admits that he was surprised by how much the low-key analogy was made of a stir.
“Honestly,” he admitted to Billboard, reflecting on the wonderful finding, “I didn’t know it was going to be so telling.
The singer reveals that he began to doubt his sexual identity a few years ago, after meeting Christina Carano, while still playing with same-sex relationships.
“I’ve had experiences with men, even while I was dating the woman who became my wife,” the 41-year-old said. “It was like, ‘Wow, does that mean I am gay?'”
“My wife laid it out for me,” My wife laid it out for me. “She calls it ‘two spirit’, which is what the Native Americans call someone who can love both man and woman. I really like that”
The couple ended up together for four years before becoming husband and wife in October 2015, and Jason is so satisfied in his partnership, he recently gave fans a behind-the-scenes snapshot of his wedding day in Virginia by featuring personal video footage in the promotion for his new album, Might As Well Dance.
