Lecrae Biography and Life Story

Lecrae Moore was born in Houston, Texas, on October 9, 1979, and was adopted by a weak single mother who introduced him to narcotics. Throughout his childhood, he was willing to experience numerous communities and backgrounds, sad to note that he idolized and adapted street life to many areas. He was gambling, drinking, cheating and battling at 16 years of age, but was quickly turned into a newborn Christian after attending a Christian conference headed by James White. At that moment, he has lived a completely different one, a Christ-centered life. He started composing songs about his ups and downs and signed to Reach Records at 25 and launched his debut album named “Real Talk” instantly.

He started working on a follow-up by seeing first-hand how the set had positively influenced people in showbiz and more generally. The sophomore record, named “After the Music Stops” (2006), was critically popular and exceeded his debut album by hitting number 5 on the Billboard Gospel Album charts. It was also nominated for the Dove Awards and the hit single “Jesus Muzik” was produced. Two years back, with his third album “Rebel” which stayed on the Gospel charts for 78 weeks straight, Lecrae took over Billboard charts and iTunes. Thus, it became the first Christian hip-hop album on the Billboard Gospel list to hit No. 1.

Lecrae, selected to introduce gospels to the larger world, launched his fourth studio album, Rehab, which concentrated on escape and freedoms from inhibiting addictions and behaviors on the basis of its title. The collection was also nominated for a Dove Award for Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year, in addition to being nominated for the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album Grammy. Dubbed as one of the best-selling Christian Rap/Hip Hop records of all time, his accomplishment led Lecrae to appear at the 2011 Cypher BET Hip Hop Awards, which won him worldwide media recognition. A follow-up album named “Rehab: The Overdose” was released in January of the same year, and easily rose to No. 1 on iTunes, the Hip-Hop charts, and the Christian Hip-Hop charts.

Lecrae launched a mixtape the next year called “Unashamed Tour” and a new project named “Church Clothes” after staging the “Gravity”. “Church Clothes Vol. 2” was released in 2013, preceded in the next year by a seventh song, “Anomaly” In addition to being a professional, Lecrae is Darragh Moore’s husband, with whom he has three daughters. He is also the co-founder and president of ReachLife Ministries, a non-profit organisation that works to “help bridge the gap between biblical truth and the urban context.” His ministries include the growth of evangelism, discipleship, and leadership for urban church leaders.
