A couple years after graduation, she relocated to New York City to get a job in media news. She had her start tiny, working in the hospitality business as a waitress, and then began having jobs in broadcasting.

She founded Radio Rootz in 2004, and she has managed the show since its inception. Radio Rootz (later called RAZ-TV), literacy program supported teenagers in at-risk communities, centered on providing them with hands-on television or broadcasting training.

In 2006, Leigh Ann hit the height of her career as a news director for Pacifica Radio.
