Based on the famous protagonists of Archie Comics, Riverdale is a shocking yet cynical take on Archie (KJ Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart, Surviving Jack), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse, Zack and Cody’s Suite Life), Josie (Ashleigh Murray) and their families, reflecting the surrealism of small city life.
As the new school year starts, the Riverdale community has been devastated by the recent devastating death of Jason Blossom, the golden high school kid… Nothing, and there appears to be nothing the same… Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still an all-American boy, but the summer activities made him realize that after the abrupt end of his forbidden partnership with the young music teacher of Riverdale, Ms. Grundy, he wants to seek a career in music, not walking in the footsteps of his parent (Sarah Habel). Which suggests that Archie doesn’t have to be mentored by anybody, particularly not by singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who only concentrates on her soon-to-be band, the world-famous Pussycats.
As with his fractured relationship with Jughead Jones, the young writer and fellow author, all weighs heavily on the mind of Archie (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, after being away all summer, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is delighted to see her crush Archie, but she is not yet ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And not the only thing that keeps her back is the nerves of Betty, which are barely soothed by her overbearing mother, Alice (Madchen Amick).
There is an undeniable spark between her and Archie when a young pupil, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in New York City with her mum, Hermione (Marisol Nichols), even though Veronica does not want to sacrifice her new relationship with Betty by producing a play for Archie. And then we have Cheryl Blossom over here (Madelaine Petsch)… The Riverdale Queen Bee is delighted to spice up the excitement of Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is hiding secrets of her own. What, specifically, is she concealing regarding the mysterious death of Jason, her twin brother? Riverdale might look like a quiet, sleepy spot, but in the shadows there are dangers…
