Trey Songz was born on November 28, 1984, under the name Tremaine Aldon Neverson, and was raised in a Virginia military household. He began playing for his friends and family as a child, but he never contemplated seeking a music career. He competed reluctantly in a talent contest in the year 2000 and was discovered by producer Troy Taylor. He was signed to the Atlantic Music Company two years later, relocated to New Jersey, and started producing his debut album in 2003.
Under the alias Prince of Virginia, Songz issued several mixtapes while still working on the record. He eventually lowered his first “I Gotta Make It” attempt back in 200It climbed to No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 200, with guest performances from Twista, Aretha Franklin and Juvenile. It was a decent success in the list, given that back then he was only a young singer. Two singles from the record, Gotta Go and Gotta Make It, peaked on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list at No. 11 and 21, respectively.
Songz promised to lend his vocals to one of the rapper’s songs in exchange for Twista’s supporting hands on his record. They hooked up with “Girl Tonite” which later became a big success. Coming from the fifth studio set of Twista’s The Day After, it hit No. 2 on Hot Rap Tracks and No. 3 on the chart of Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Three years after its predecessor, his second album, ‘Trey Day,’ was released. As featured guests, Bun B, DJ Drama and Jim Jones are lined up. In August 2009, Songz launched another album named ‘Able’. He scored his highest sales week, rising to No. 3 on the Hot 200 with 131,000 copies on offer in his first week. In addition to his success on the list, at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, he was nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Song, but lost to Beyonce Knowles. He also traveled with Jay-Z during the year for the rapper’s opening act.
