The life of Webbie was especially challenging since he was growing up in a tough section of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On September 6, 1985, he was born Webster Gradney, Jr. and raised in Rugged Sherwood, where his crime rate was rated the second highest in the world. “It’s real gutta,” he remembered. But it’s nice if you think for your own stuff. I’m missing it when I’m away for too long. That’s where I’m from, that’s home.”But it’s nice if you mind your own business.

When I’m gone for too long, I be missin’ it. That’s where I’m from, that’s home.” However, Gradney was focused on cultivating his creative side by beginning to rap at the age of five. He had a California cousin who showed him how to expose him to several “gangsta” artists, such as Snoop Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Eazy E, UGK and many others, who had built a reputation out there. Apt for his position in life, Gradney expresses to his music his emotional struggles being raised up in the hard region of the country. Unfortunately, when he was just 8 years old, his mother Jocelyn, who introduced the music inspiration to him in the first place, lost her life to cancer. He would later note that his mother used to groove to her favorite songs and somehow exposed him to the musical way of life. With his life, Gradney went on, splitting his time between rapping and school.

In raising him, his father and grandmother took turns leaving him to focus on himself in the job of education. He wasn’t the definition of the perfect student. Teachers also gave him bad marks, and even though he admittedly claimed that he cared too much for education, he was often expelled for fighting. Gradney thrived on his raping potential in life outside of school where he was signed by the local label Get Money Boys at the age of 1He wrote, had gigs and encountered important individuals who would support him later to begin his career. Gradney went on with a larger label, Trill Entertainment, as urban music splashed its presence more thickly in the country. The rapper was signed to a recording house which was co-owned by the late rapper Pimp C of the UGK pair,

who was just 15 years old. He produced many indie tapes along with Lil Boosie, and slowly became a commodity for the rap scene. The teenager who was then known as Webbie started to release singles to urban radios and got a fairly favorable response. The 2004 releases of “Gimme That Pussy” and “Bad Bitch” managed to turn a few heads, leading in July 2005 to the popular release of his first album, “Savage Life” On the Billboard Hot 200, the debut hit #4 and was certified Gold by the RIAA as of February 2008.
