Marc Scott Emery (born February 13, 1958) is a Canadian cannabis activist, entrepreneur, and politician who is well-known for his involvement in the cannabis industry. Emery has been referred to as “the Prince of Pot” and has been a prominent proponent of worldwide cannabis policy change for many years. As well as being involved in the New Democratic Party, the Freedom Party of Canada, the Unparty, and the Cannabis Party of Canada, he has also been involved in the BC Cannabis Party and the BC Green Party, among other organisations and political parties. For his part, Emery has spoken out against Sunday shopping restrictions, obscenity legislation, political endorsements of sports events, Canadian censorship and other levies throughout his political libertarian career. Emery has spent time in prison on numerous occasions, most recently in 2009, when he was sentenced to five years in a United States federal prison for smuggling cannabis seeds into the country via the mail. Emery and his wife, Jodie Emery, reside in Vancouver, British Columbia, where they have two children.
