Pierre Houde (born July 14, 1957) is a Canadian sports broadcaster who works for RDS as a play-by-play announcer. Since 1989, he has been the voice of the Montreal Canadiens on television broadcasts. Over the years, he has collaborated with Pierre Bouchard and Yvon Pedneault on many projects.
He was partnered with Benoit Brunet, a former member of the Montreal Canadiens, from 2007 until 201In 2010-11, he shared the bench with Jol Bouchard, who was later given the position of general manager of the Blainville Armada. As a result, in 2011, Jol was replaced by Marc Denis, a former NHL goalie.
Houde, along with Bertrand Houle, also broadcasts Formula One races at the same station where they are both heard. Whenever the Canadiens score, Houde calls out “Le tir, ET LE BUT!” (A shot, AND A GOAL!) but he may drag out the “but” for many seconds (“Le tir, ET LE BUUUUUUUUT!!!!!!!!!”). Houde’s goal cry is “Le tir, ET LE BUT!” (A shot, AND A GOAL!) after each goal.
Other cries include “Eh bien, ma parole!” which he uses often when improbable circumstances occur, and “Les rouges s’éteignent… ET ON ROULE!!!” which he employs before the start of a Formula One Grand Prix to signal the start of the race.
Hockey play-by-plays are performed on Le Hockey Du Samedi Soir Coors Light, Le Hockey Du Mardi Soir Subway, Le Hockey Du Jeudi Soir Subway, and any other days the Canadiens are in action by Houde. Houde comes from Saint-Laurent, Quebec, which is now a borough inside the city of Montreal, where he was born. Since 1992, he has been married to Sylvie Allard.
