Vladislav Aleksandrovich Pozner (Russian: Vladimir Aleksandrovich Pozner; born 1908; died 1975) was a Russian-born Jewish émigré to the United States who worked as a journalist. During World War II, while working for the United States government, he spied for the Soviet Union’s intelligence services. As a result of the Bolshevik Revolution, the Pozner family left Soviet Russia, and while living in Europe, Vladimir Pozner developed sympathies for communist ideology. When he joined Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) in 1938, he was the head engineer of the company’s European division in Paris. In 1943, he was appointed Director of the Russian Section of the United States War Department’s film division. Louise Bransten kept in touch with Pozner on a regular basis. “Plato” was the cover name used by Vladimir Pozner, according to NSA/FBI analysts working on the Venona project. In the early 1950s, Vladimir Pozner and his family relocated to East Berlin, and subsequently to Moscow, as part of the Soviet Union. Pozner’s son, Vladimir Vladimirovich Pozner, travelled the world on behalf of Soviet agencies and, after the fall of the Soviet Union, was regarded as an independent journalist in the United States, where he went by the name Vladimir Posner (having Anglicized the surname).
