Pete Ham, Mike Gibbins, Tom Evans, and Joey Molland were the founding members of Badfinger, a British rock band. The Iveys, a previous band established in 1961 in Swansea, Wales by Ham, Ron Griffiths, and David "Dai" Jenkins, developed into the band. The Iveys were recruited to the Apple label by the Beatles in 1968. Griffiths departed the band in 1969, and Molland took his place, and the band was renamed Badfinger. From 1970 to 1972, Badfinger had four global hits: "Come and Get It" (written and produced by Paul McCartney), "No Matter What," "Day After Day," and "Baby Blue." Due to its appearance at the conclusion of the series finale of the popular TV programme Breaking Bad, "Baby Blue" resurfaced at No. 14 on the Billboard 100's "Hot Rock Songs" list in 2013. Their song "Without You" has been recorded numerous times, notably by Harry Nilsson, who had a Billboard number one success with it. Stan Polley, an American businessman, was hired by the band to handle its commercial operations in 1970. The band produced many albums for Apple and toured extensively over the following five years, but was caught up in the turmoil of Apple Records' demise. They signed with Warner Bros., but Polley's financial misdeeds led in Warner filing a lawsuit over unpaid escrow account funds. The band's revenue was cut off when Warner pulled the band's 1974 album, Wish You Were Here, off the market (seven weeks after its release). On April 24, 1975, three days before his 28th birthday, Ham committed himself by hanging himself, leaving a letter that contained disparaging remarks about Polley. Surviving members battled to reconstruct their personal and professional lives against a background of litigation over the following three years. In an effort to resurrect and capitalise on the Badfinger heritage, the albums Airwaves (1978) and Say No More (1981) floundered as Molland and Evans swung back and forth between collaboration and conflict. Evans allegedly never got over his friend's suicide after seeing his corpse when Ham's wife contacted him, and was quoted as stating in darker times, "I want to be where he is." Evans also committed suicide by hanging on November 19, 1983.
