Barry Hall (born February 8, 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Storm. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest forwards of the contemporary period, having been selected All-Australian on nine times, as well as captaining the Sydney Swans to the 2005 AFL Grand Final win. He has also been chosen to the All-Australian team on three occasions. Hall made history in July 2011 when he became the first player in AFL history to score 100 goals for three different clubs in the same season.

He is presently on the Kangaroos’ waiting list in Broadford. At the start of his professional footballing career, Hall played with the St Kilda Football Club, where he was twice named the club’s top goalkicker in 1999 and 2001. His time with the Sydney Swans is what he is most remembered for. The Swans’ greatest player throughout his tenure there, he was top of the club goalkicking leaderboard from 2002 to 2008 and co-captain of the side from 2005 to 2007, including the club’s drought-breaking championship in 2005. He was named to the AFL’s All-Star team in 2005. 

He also played a significant role in the AFL’s promotion in Sydney, achieving a similar level of prominence to that of Tony Lockett, and was featured in a joint AFL and Swans campaign known as “Barry Hall Hall” in 2006. A reputation for on-field aggressiveness doomed the former junior boxing champion’s AFL career, earning him the moniker “football’s wild man.” He quickly rose to become one of the game’s most feared players, earning him the nickname “the lion of the field.”
