Povenmire (/?p?v?nma??r/; born September 18, 1963) is an American television director, writer, producer, storyboard artist, and actor who has worked on a number of animated television series. He is best known as the co-creator of the Disney animated television series Phineas and Ferb, in which he also voices the show’s villain, Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Born in Mobile, Alabama, Povenmire grew up as an artistically gifted student who enjoyed spending his summers outdoors and creating movies.
Prior to choosing to pursue a film career, Povenmire studied at the University of South Alabama before moving to the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts to further his education. Povenmire has been a long-time contributor to the animation industry, having worked on a variety of animated television programmes such as Hey Arnold!, The Simpsons, Rocko’s Modern Life, and SpongeBob SquarePants, among others.
He worked as a director on the prime-time television sitcom Family Guy for many years, and he was nominated for an Annie Award in 2005 for his work there. He departed the series to collaborate with Jeff “Swampy” Marsh on the creation of Phineas and Ferb. The programme has earned him nominations for a number of prizes, including a BAFTA, an Annie, and an Emmy Award, for his work on it.
