Derryn Nigel Hinch (born 9 February 1944) is an Australian media personality who was born in New Zealand and is best known for his work on Melbourne radio and television. He was the host of 3AW’s Drive radio programme until December 2012, and he now works for the Seven Network as a National Public Affairs analyst on Sunday Night, Today Tonight, and Sunrise. He’s also worked as a cop, a foreign journalist, a newspaper editor, a television programme presenter, an actor (mostly in character), a writer, and a winemaker. Hinch is an ardent critic of Australia’s criminal justice system, and his idealism and outspokenness, particularly his views on different sex offender legislation, have sparked significant debate throughout his career. Hinch was convicted in contempt of court in January 2014 and sentenced to 50 days in prison.
