Gail Ann Dorsey (born November 20, 1962) is an American musician who performs in many genres. While she has had a successful career as a session musician, her most well-known role is as a member of David Bowie’s band, which she has been a part of since 1995 and continues to this day. Aside from her work as a bassist, she has also performed lead vocals on “Under Pressure,” according to Bowie’s introduction on A Reality Tour, and duetted with him on other songs, such as “The London Boys,” “I Dig Everything,” on which she accompanied Bowie on clarinet, and a cover of Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman.” While working with Tears for Fears from 1993 to 1996, Dorsey recorded and toured extensively with them, as well as collaborating on songwriting with them. Throughout this time period, she appeared in a number of the band’s promotional videos. Some of her notable collaborations include performances or recordings with artists such as David Bowie, Boy George, Boy George and the Indigo Girls; Khaled; Jane Siberry; The The; Skin; Gwen Stefani; Charlie Watts; Seal; Gang of Four; Susan Werner; ani difranco; Dar Williams; and Gwen Stefani and Gwen Stefani. Besides that, Dorsey has published three solo albums: The Corporate World (1988), Rude Blue (1992), and I Used To Be… (2003), with a fourth album presently in the works, according to her own website, which is currently under construction.
