Gordon Korman (born October 23, 1963) is a Canadian-American novelist who has authored more than a dozen novel series for children and young adults. He and his family reside in Great Neck, New York, with his wife and their three children, who are all in school. When Korman was twelve years old, he penned his first novel on the spur of the moment. Mr. Hamilton, a former track and field coach who found himself in the position of teaching English for the first time, was his Grade 7 English teacher while attending German Mills Public School. 

During the semester, Hamilton asked students to write a novel; this assignment served as the basis for Korman’s debut book, This Can’t Be Happening at Macdonald Hall, which is the first book in the Macdonald Hall (Bruno and Boots) series. During the semester, Korman served as the Scholastic Arrow Book Club monitor for the class, and after finishing the assignment, he submitted his work to Scholastic for publication. In 1978, when Korman was fourteen years old, Scholastic Press released his first novel, This Can’t Be Happening at Macdonald Hall, which was a critical and commercial success. 

While still a student at Thornhill High School in Ontario, Korman authored and published five novels before graduation. Korman has authored more than 85 novels, which have together sold more than 17 million copies over the course of his three-decade-long career.
