Lucy Deakins (born December 18, 1971) is an actress from the United States. Deakins was born in New York City, where she grew up as the daughter of Alice, a professor at William Paterson University, and Roger, a retired professor from New York University. She graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1988 and went on to study at Harvard University the following year. She received her bachelor’s degree in comparative religion from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1994. 

She took time off to pursue acting opportunities and travel across Europe. While residing in Port Townsend, Washington, she enrolled in boatbuilding school, worked as an EMT, and became a member of the town’s Fire Academy, where she eventually became a captain. The next year, Deakins relocated to the city of Denver, Colorado, where she worked as a paralegal. 

Her marriage to J.J. Arnold, whom she met on the internet, took place in 199Mason, her daughter, was born in the month of January 2000. It was in January of 2002 that she and her husband relocated to New York City so that they could be closer to the art scene (he is a painter and sculptor). She enrolled in law school at the University of Washington in Seattle, where she graduated with honours the following year.
