Mike Wankum is a staff meteorologist with WCVB-TV, an ABC station in Boston, Massachusetts. Since December 2006, he has worked with the station. From July 1993 until December 2006, he was the head meteorologist at WLVI Channel 5In Boston, he won 10 Emmys, and in Richmond, Virginia, he won one. The Associated Press-Massachusetts and Rhode Island gave six awards for Best Weathercast and three prizes for Outstanding Weathercast to the Massachusetts Broadcaster Association. In December 2006, Tribune Broadcasting sold WLVI to Sunbeam Television. Wankum has written to ESPN and is a regular contributor to ABC World News with David Muir on weekends. He has worked for many
Boston radio stations, including WZLX (100.7), WBCN (104.1), WBUR (90.9), and Kiss 108, providing weather updates. He’s also written predictions for BostonNOW and the Boston Herald. He served as a chief meteorologist at WTVR in Richmond, Virginia, from 1990 to 1993, and at KTIV-TV in his hometown of Iowa from 1980 to 1990 before moving to Boston. Wankum has volunteered with a variety of Boston-area organisations and served as chairman of the Chernobyl Children Project USA. Boy Scouts of America, Easter Seals, MDA, Tufts-New England Medical Center, and the Floating Hospital for Children are among the organisations involved. Wankum, a graduate of Briar Cliff University, resides on the South Shore of Massachusetts in the town of Scituate.
