A convicted criminal and businessman from California, Young Lee (born September 6, 1964) was a co-founder of Pinkberry, a network of frozen yoghurt shops that he co-founded with his brother. In 2010, he decided to leave the business. Lee claims to have studied interior design at Parsons School of Design and to have worked as a bouncer for a period of time in the past. In an interview with Fast Company, he explained how he positioned Pinkberry as the Italian equivalent of mom-and-pop yogurterias. For “felony cocaine possession and two misdemeanour charges of violence on a spouse,… as well as carrying a loaded handgun,” Lee was sentenced to two days in prison and three years of probation in 200Lee was arrested in January 2012 on an outstanding warrant for assault with a dangerous weapon, which had been issued in June 2011 when Lee was accused of beating a homeless man with a tyre iron. Lee was on his way to Los Angeles from Korea when the Los Angeles Police Department was informed by a federal database that he had been abducted. Prosecutors claimed Lee and another man followed the homeless guy and “struck him down” with the tyre iron because when at a traffic stop the transient approached Lee’s vehicle and displayed Lee and his fiancée his sexually graphic tattoo which they found objectionable.
Los Angeles police authorities said that although Lee ordered that the guy kneel and apologise, he was willing to comply, but Lee assaulted him nevertheless, following him down, kicking him, and “hitting him down” with a tyre iron. A different version of the event was provided by Lee’s attorney, who claimed that the homeless man had threatened Lee and the passengers in his vehicle. Lee was found guilty on November 8, 2013, and sentenced to prison. Lee was sentenced to seven years jail without the possibility of release on March 14, 2014, which was the maximum punishment.
