Barry Kelley (August 19, 1908 – June 5, 1991) was an American actor who worked on Broadway in the 1930s and 1940s and in films in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. He was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. The part of Ike in the Broadway production of Oklahoma! was created by the hulking actor. In films, he often played police officers or judges, as shown in Boomerang (his debut picture, released in 1947), Knock on Any Door, Ma and Pa Kettle, and The Asphalt Jungle, among others. The Chicago-born actor, who stands 6'4" and weighs 230 pounds, first appeared on stage in the 1930s. Kelley has also featured in a slew of television shows as well. In the movies, he was mainly seen in westerns or crime dramas, which is not surprising. In 1954, he made an appearance on television in an episode of The Lone Ranger titled Texas Draw. The CBS comedy Pete and Gladys, starring Harry Morgan and Cara Williams, featured him in six episodes in 1961 as Mr. Slocum, the employer of insurance agent Pete Porter. He played the role for six episodes. In 1962, Kelley appeared as Captain Donovan in the episode "The Parish Car" of the ABC drama series Going My Way, which starred Gene Kelly and was shown on ABC. He appeared as journalist George Hearst in the Death Valley Days episode "The Paper Dynasty" from 1964, which aired on a syndicated television network. In the Perry Mason episode "The Case of the Fanciful Frail," he portrayed the killer Park Milgrave, and he was a big hit. His last television appearance was as Sheriff Vic Crandall in three episodes of the CBS comedy Petticoat Junction, which aired in 1967 and 1968. He also featured in the 1960s comedy Mister Ed, when he played Alan Young's father-in-law on a few occasions. He died in Woodland Hills, California, at the age of eighty-two, after a long illness.
