Sir Curtly Elconn Lynwall Ambrose (born September 21, 1963) is a former Antigua and Barbuda cricketer who represented the West Indies in a total of 98 Test matches. He was a fast bowler who took 405 Test wickets at an average of 20.99 and spent most of his career at the top of the International Cricket Council Player Rankings, where he was widely regarded as the finest bowler in the world. In addition to his tremendous height (2.01 m), which enabled him to make the ball bounce extraordinarily high after delivering it, he also had outstanding velocity and accuracy. This combination made him a tough bowler for batters to face. Known for being a man of few words throughout his professional life, he was famously reticent to talk to media. A team of experts recognised him as a member of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1992; following his retirement, he was inducted into the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame and named to the West Indies all-time XI by the International Cricket Council. Ambrose, who was born in Swetes, Antigua, started to cricket at a somewhat late age, having previously favoured basketball in his teens, but immediately established himself as a potent fast bowler. After making his way up through the ranks of regional and national teams, he was selected for the first time by the West Indies in 198He was almost immediately successful, and he remained a member of the squad until his retirement, which occurred in the year 2000.
