He is an American former professional basketball player who was born on November 30, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa, and played in the NBA for a number of years. His high school basketball experience was with John F. Kennedy High School in the Granada Hills neighbourhood of Los Angeles, and he went on to play at UCLA. He is 6’8″ and 220 pounds. Daye was drafted by the Washington Bullets in the third round (57th overall) in the 1983 NBA Draft. He played with the Bullets for four seasons. Daye was named Most Valuable Player of the McDonald’s All-American Game in 1979, which he won. Daye had a double-double while representing the West squad, scoring 22 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. It was not enough, as the West was defeated by a single point. From 1983 through 1988, Daye played in five NBA seasons with the Bullets, the Chicago Bulls, and the Boston Celtics. Daye’s season with the Boston Celtics in 1987-88 was his last season in the National Basketball Association. After that, he went on to play in Italy, France, and Israel until finally retiring in 199Austin Daye, his son, was a member of the Gonzaga University men’s basketball team and was taken into the NBA by the Detroit Pistons with the 15th overall selection in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft, according to the Detroit News. Austin was a member of the San Antonio Spurs, who won the NBA title in 2014 after defeating the Miami Heat in the Finals of the NBA.
