Daryl Frank Dragon (born August 27, 1942) is a keyboardist best known as Captain in the popular 1970s pop musical duet Captain & Tennille, which he formed with his wife, Toni Tennille. Daryl Frank Dragon is the son of the late Daryl Frank Dragon and Toni Tennille. A musical family raised Dragon, who is the son of conductor, composer, and arranger Carmen Dragon. He is also the older brother of Dennis Dragon, a former member of the 1960s pop duo The Dragons (which also featured Doug Dragon) and the Surf Punks, a 1980s surf band that was formed by Doug Dragon. Danny Thomas, an actor and comedian, served as his godfather. It was during his stint as a keyboard player with The Beach Boys in the early 1970s that Dragon gained fame and earned the stage moniker “Dragon.” The moniker “Captain” was given to him by Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love, and it stayed; Dragon started the custom of donning a nautical captain’s hat to go along with the name, which continues today. As Captain in the television series Captain & Tennille, Dragon was a man of few words who was often quiet, serving as a counterpoint to his boisterous, lively wife, Toni Tennille. Dragon, along with his wife Tennille, was said to be a vegetarian in 1981, according to a report.
