Malani Senehelatha Fonseka (Sinhala: ) (born 30 April 1947 in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka) is a Sri Lankan film actress who is widely regarded as the “Queen of Sinhalese cinema.” She has received several awards for her work. Her film career, which has lasted many decades, started with Tissa Liyansooriya’s Punchi Baba in 1968, and has continued to this day. When she received the ‘Best Actress Award’ at the 1969 National State Drama Festival, she became the first woman to do so. She went on to win three more Sarasaviya Best Actress Awards for Hingana Kolla in 1980, Aradhana in 1982, and Yasa Isuru in 1983, all of which came after that. Her moniker was given to her by CNN in 2010 when they listed her as one of Asia’s top 25 finest cinema stars of all time.
