Marlin Oliver (Marlin the Magician) Briscoe (born September 10, 1945) is a former American football wide receiver/quarterback who played at the university and professional levels. When he was chosen by the Denver Broncos in October 1968, he became the first African-American starting quarterback in the American Football League. That season, he set a Denver rookie record with 14 touchdown passes, which remains unbroken today. He was a professional basketball player for nine years. The native of Omaha, Nebraska, Briscoe went on to play high school football at Omaha South High School and collegiate football at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Briscoe is married and has two children.
