“Nicky” Winmar (born September 25, 1965) is a former Australian rules footballer best remembered for his time with St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL) and his time with South Fremantle in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). As a child growing up in the Wheatbelt area of Western Australia, he started his professional football career with South Fremantle, with whom he played 58 games until being signed by St Kilda ahead to the 1987 season. During his twelve-year St Kilda career, Winmar earned the Trevor Barker Award twice, in 1989 and 1995, for being the club’s best and fairest player. He was also selected to the All-Australian team on two occasions. In 1998, he departed St Kilda and was recruited by the Western Bulldogs, where he played one more season in the AFL before retiring at the conclusion of the 1999 season.
