She was a familiar face in several popular films of the 1940s and 1950s, as well as Western-themed television series, but she is perhaps best remembered for her role as Louise Carey, the wife of Scott Carey, played by Grant Williams, in The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), which is now considered an early classic of science-fiction film. She also appeared in several popular films of the 1940s and 1950s, as well as Western-themed television series. Itinerant musicians in the American South and Middle West, Stuart's parents were the inspiration for him. She was born in the town of Iola, in the county of Allen, in the state of Kansas's southern region, and had her theatrical debut when she was three years old. Stuart Shaubell attended college in California, thus the Shaubells migrated to the state. Following a successful screen test for the play The Women, Stuart was signed to a contract with 20th Century Fox. Her feature film début was in the 1947 film The Foxes of Harrow, in which she was uncredited. In 1948, she starred as Peggy, a savvy secretary (and collaborator with actor Clifton Webb) in the comedy Sitting Pretty, which was directed by John Ford. Stuart was described as a supporting character in the comedy/musical Dancing in the Dark, which starred William Powell and Betsy Drake, according to promotional materials. Stuart had a cameo appearance in the Best Picture of the year, All About Eve, in which he played a telephone buddy of Anne Baxter and appeared during the party scene. (The same scene also included Marilyn Monroe, who happened to be Stuart's dancing training classmate.) Stella, a noir comedy starring Ann Sheridan and Victor Mature, landed her a supporting role in the fourth row. In 1951, she starred as Marge Boyd in the film I Can Get It For You Wholesale, which was considered to be her breakthrough performance. Stuart teamed up with Cary Grant and Betsy Drake once again in the Warner Brothers comedy Room for One More, which was released in 1952. Biff Baker, U.S.A., a 26-episode filmed adventure series that aired on CBS during the 1952-53 season, gave Stuart a good start in the entertainment industry. She co-starred as Louise Baker, the wife of Cold War spy Alan Hale, Jr., in the series, which was produced by Stuart and starred Alan Hale (and was recently released on DVD). Man from God's Country, starring George Montgomery, was her first film role. She was cast as Nancy Dawson in the 1958 western picture. She also appeared as a guest star in Montgomery's short-lived television western series, Cimarron City, at the same time period as well. Stuart appeared in eleven episodes of the ABC western television series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp from 1959 to 1960, in which Hugh O'Brian played the titular character of Marshal Wyatt Earp. Stuart was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles. Nellie was a love interest for Earp for a limited period of time. From 1958 through 1961, Stuart appeared in four episodes of Clint Walker's ABC/Warner Brothers western, Cheyenne, in which he played various characters.
