J. Cole may be known for as the defender of Jay-Z for the first time, but he rose from the side to become a Billboard chart topper. On January 28, 198, in Frankfurt, Germany, Jermaine Lamarr Cole was born to a European American mother and to an African American father. When his father abandoned the home, he migrated to Fayetteville, North Carolina, with his mother.
At the age of 14, Cole’s obsession with rap began when J. Money put him into the rap game, and he was taught the fundamentals of rhyming and word play by his cousin. He was a songs specialist, first in beats before that. His mother then purchased a beat machine from him that helped him make his own songs. Cole lived the majority of his adolescent years as a psychiatrist, writing his songs under the pseudonym online.
In search of a better opportunity, as soon as he graduated from high school, he relocated to New York City. He enrolled in an academic scholarship at St. John’s University where he majored in communication and minored in finance, graduating magna cum laude. He served in the city as a bill collector, but his passion was somewhere else. In 2007, Cole first came up with a mixtape named ‘The Coming Up.’
Cole waited outside of Jay-office Z’s building for hours to send him his demo tape with just bravery and dedication. However, Cole was shunned when the great rapper came out. Luck arrived not long before that, though. He got a call from an acquaintance who told him that he had a business meeting to attend with Jay-Z.
Apparently, Jay-Z learned his album “Lights Please” from him. “On the mixtape “The Warm Up,” his first track “Who Dat” emerged. In 2010, he promoted the album with his college tour. In November of that year, his third official mixtape, Friday Night Lights, featuring names such as Drake and Wale, was released. In early 2011, he then joined Drake as his supporting act for the Light Dreams and Nightmares UK Tour. Within the next several months, he went on to support Tinie Tempah and Rihanna.
