Nicki Minaj, who was born on December 8, 1984, is of Indo-Asian origin. And a father who was a heroin user, she grew up in a dysfunctional household. She studied music and acting at LaGuardia High School, but she started her singing career as a supporting vocalist for other singers, like many other great stars.
“Her skills were first noticed on MySpace by Young Money CEO Fendi and later hired for the “The Coming Up” DVD series of The Carter Version of Young Money. Her rapping talent drew the interest of Lil Wayne, who later tagged her with his mixtapes for a variety of collaborations.
In April 2007, her first mixtape, Playtime Is Over, was launched by Nicki. Weezy stole his vocals from one of the tracks. A year later, at the Underground Music Awards, she released another “Sucka Free” mixtape that landed her as the Female Artist of the Year.
She appeared on a bunch of collaborative tracks for studio albums from the likes of Ludacris, Usher, Mariah Carey and, of course, her mentor Weezy after the release of her third mixtape “Beam Me Up Scotty” which earned favorable feedback from BET and MTV.
“In March 2010, Nicki eventually launched her debut single “Huge Assault”. She partners up on the hook with Sean Garrett and tags the girlfriend of her BFF Amber Rose alias Kanye West while filming the music video.
The recording of her official debut album, “Your Love” which was released later in 2010, was followed by the singles “Check It Out” and “Pink Friday]”. On Billboard 200, it peaked at No. 2 and it went platinum. She won a handful of nominations for the 2011 Grammy, including Best New Artist, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance.
As the first offering from her second effort, “Starships” she launched “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” in early 2012, an album centered around her devil-may-care alter ego “Roman Zolanski.” Featuring guest appearances on the U.S. album chart from Nas, Wayne, Rick Ross, Chris Brown and Beenie Guy, the album reached No. The album produced other singles such as “Starships” and “Pound the Alarm” in addition to “Va Va Voom”, which entered the top 40.0 of the Hot 100. At the end of 2012, even though she quit at the end of the season, Minaj was confirmed as a judge for the twelfth season of “American Idol”
Minaj revealed in 2013 that she was going to drop a new album in 201″Lookin A**”The Pinkprint,”The Pinkprint” “Pills N Potions” was released as the second single a number of weeks later. The biggest success from the song, though, is the third single, ‘Anaconda,’ so far. The ode to booty spawned a twerk-filled music video featuring a snippet of Sir Mix-a-1992 Lot’s hit “Baby’s Got Back” that finally became the most watched clip on YouTube in 24 hours. The album debuted at number 2 on the Hot 100 itself. “The Pinkprint” album was released on the 15th of December.
“The Pinkprint” has 16 tracks in total and includes contributions by the likes of Meek Mill, Drake, Lil Wayne, Jeremih, and more. Generally favorable reviews were received from music reviewers for the record, which was co-produced by Birdman, Wayne and Ronald Williams. In March 2015, Minaj became the first female artist in the top 10 of the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart of Billboard as a lead act with three simultaneous songs. It was revealed in May that she will be playing alongside Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Eve and more in the third iteration of the ‘Barbershop’ film series. The film was released on April 15, 2016, entitled ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’. At the 2015 BET Awards, Minaj bagged the honour of Best Female Hip-Hop Artist for the sixth straight year. With the bulk of wins in that division, she became the female rapper, quickly followed by Missy Elliott with five wins. When she won Best Hip-Hop Video for her chart-topping song “Anaconda” at the VMAs in 2015, Minaj proceeded to conquer the hip-hop music business.
