Story of the Year is a rock band from St. Louis, Missouri, that was established in 1995 by a group of friends. The band was formerly known by the moniker Big Blue Monkey when it was founded. They changed their name to Story of the Year in 2002, after the publication of an EP named Story of the Year on the independent label Criterion Records, after realising that a blues group by the name of Big Blue Monkey had already existed at the time of their change of name. Story of the Year’s first commercial breakthrough would not come until a few years after the band’s formation, with the release of its big label debut, Page Avenue, which included the hit songs “Until the Day I Die” and “Anthem of Our Dying Day.” In 2005, the band released a second studio album, In the Wake of Determination, which did not reach the same level of financial success as its predecessor. The Black Swan, the band’s third studio album, was released on April 22, 2008, and was their first release on Epitaph Records. It was followed by The Constant, which was released in 20In a statement released on March 8, 2013, the band said that they had reformed and were planning a global tour. On September 30, 2014, it was announced via a Facebook post that bassist Adam Russell was leaving the band in order to pursue a life plan that did not include being a member of SOTY. Russell stated that he was leaving the band in order to pursue a life plan that did not include being a member of SOTY. The surviving members of the band will continue on their journey.
