Eddie Torres, popularly known as “The Mambo King,” is a salsa dance teacher who was born on July 3, 1950. Torres’ technique evolved from Afro-Cuban son, mambo, and North American jazz dance, among other influences. He is one of the most well-known New York salsa dancers. He is well-known for his style of salsa dance and coaching, with females beginning to take notice (always On 2 timing). Torres’ style contrasts with that of Los Angeles, which is more flamboyant.
Eddie has been dancing and teaching salsa for over four decades, and he has taught hundreds of dancers, including Delille Thomas (Mambo D), Wilton Beltre (founder of Santo Rico Dance Company), Adolfo Indacochea, Franklin Diaz, Frankie Martinez, and Seaon Bristol, among others. He also runs a children’s dancing programme that trains around 300 kids each year.
